Reunion 2008

The 2008 Purifoy-Savage family reunion in Pensacola, Florida was a great success by all indications. Well-deserved thanks to Joe and Nancy Davis, Jimmy and Pearl Savage and all those who sponsored it and who worked so hard to make it a success! About 240 of us gathered there for three days of fun, food and family fellowship. Everyone seemed to be having a great time.

In addition to seeing old familiar faces, I personally had the pleasure of meeting and learning about whole branches of the family that I didn’t know existed. The Bruners, for example, and the Chris Savage family.

I took a lot of really bad pictures at the reunion; my photography skills are sorely lacking. So, I hope that some of you will help a brother out. I know a lot of you took pictures too, so I’m hoping that you’ll share your favorite photos, from the reunion, with the rest of us. You can do so by e-mailing them to me atearl.savage@gmail.com. I will then post them on Our Family Web site at: http://our-family-online.info/home/wp/?page_id=60 .

I was also very pleased when Karen Porterfield volunteered to host the 2010 reunion in Montgomery, Alabama. I look forward to seeing all of you there.

I only have a few family member’s e-mail addresses; so please forward this message to all family members on your list and ask them to do the same.

One final thing, please share your comments and stories about this year’s reunion and your thoughts about future reunions at: http://our-family-online.info/home/wp/ . (First, you’ll need to register by clicking on the “register” link on the left side of the page, entering a user name and e-mail address. This is to prevent spammers from posting advertising or other unwanted comments.)

Thanks and God bless!

Suggestions for Future Reunions

Since returning home from our reunion in Pensacola, I’ve been in touch with several people who were there, but I didn’t know they were there and they didn’t know I was there. I’m sure it happens at every reunion, but what a missed opportunity!

So, I’m suggesting that at future reunions, as part of the banquet program, every person present be given the opportunity to stand at their table and introduce themselves and state where they’re from. Sure it would take some time to get around to everyone, given the size of our reunions, but what better way to spend our time than getting to know each other. Let’s not miss any more of those precious opportunities!

What are your thoughts on this? Please post your comments and share your ideas with the rest of the family.
